What are civil engineering services?

Civil engineering designs, calculates and supervises the structural systems of buildings and infrastructure. The scope covers reinforced concrete and steel structural design, seismic performance assessment, retrofit design for existing structures, quantity take-off and cost estimation, site supervision and progress-payment checks, and infrastructure and road design. On an existing structure the work usually begins with an as-built survey and material testing (cores, rebar detection).

When you need it: structural design for a new building, structural risk assessment, retrofit or adding a storey, damage assessment and repair design, site supervision, quantity and cost analysis.

Ask when comparing quotes: which code the design follows, which analysis method is used, which tests will be run on an existing structure, which drawings and calculation reports are delivered, how many revisions are included.
